Inspire Us to Work Harder

Some may consider this negative, but in a culture full of celebrity worship, we want what our favorite entertainers have. We work harder at trying to attain the perfect body because Beyonce Knowles and Jennifer Lopez possess it. We want to own at least one Porsche like Jerry Seinfeld, or platinum Jewelry like Sean Combs.

Though the perfect body may be unattainable, and to be fair celebrities enjoy airbrushing, personal trainers and personal chefs to help them attain either the illusion or an actual perfect body. They make us work harder at being our best self, and most of us figure if he can do it I can do it too.

Teach Us about the World

Not every person blessed with fame is shallow and self involved. Often celebrities use their fame as a platform to increase awareness about national and global problems and events. Whatever the consensus is on Angelina Jolie as a home wrecker, the fact that she has raised awareness of the importance of adoption is indisputable. Jolie, adopted two children from third world nations bringing an awareness of the plight of children in poor and developing countries. Other celebrities such as Meg Ryan, and Madonna have followed her lead and countless others will undoubtedly follow.

George Clooney may someday run for office, but is currently using his celebrity status to raise awareness of the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. Clooney has helped raise money, and introduced many Americans to a part of the world that is often not discussed on their local news.

In addition to world events celebrities also help to raise awareness and money for foundations for rare and incurable diseases. Both Michael J. Fox and Muhammad Ali suffer from Parkinsons disease, Christopher Reeve was an outspoken advocate for people with spinal disabilities. Celebrities make it cool to do charitable activities such as doing a walk for cancer or encouraging women to be tested for ****** cancer and men for prostate cancer. Celebrities such as Fran Drescher, and Rudolph Giuliani tell their stories and share their fight with the diseases which undoubtedly saves lives.

Though it is quite easy to look at most entertainers as overpaid and egotistical, remember there are two sides to the equation.

But what is it about celebrities that wants us to know everything about them? The celebrity lifestyle is one that is deemed unattainable by the average American, so being able to get a snapshot of what a day in the life of a celebrity is like is very entertaining. Celebrities are admired and they are not only famous but they also are among the wealthiest people on the planet. For people that don’t have a lot of money, being able to look at the lives of the rich and famous is an extremely entertaining venture.

There are many kinds of celebrity videos. Some are interviews, other are bloopers while still others are candid images of your favorite hero. Most often, regardless of what the actual topic is of the video, these are the funniest videos available to the general public. Outtakes are a very comical way to see a celebrity act a little more human by creating goofs and slip-ups while on camera. Celebrities are often viewed as being perfect entities, so when these goofs are caught in film, it is very funny for the viewing public. Real life makes us all undergo a lot of goof ups. So celebrities cannot be expected to be any different.

People love to see their favorite celebrities embattled in real life situations. When a layperson can catch a glimpse of a marital fight between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, or see pop icons bleaching their children’s teeth or threatening to knock out the paparazzi, the public finds this very funny. What is humor to one may not be too funny to another. But as long as matters do not get outrageous, surely we like to laugh a little at the expense of our favorite celebrities. No longer are these iconic celebrities viewed as perfect creatures that make no mistakes, when their goofs and dramas are caught on film. There is a certain degree of reassurance we all feel about ourselves when we see celebrities behaving as we would have.

This sort of on-screen celebrity unraveling was to set the standard for the second and third Celebrity Big Brother series and boy they haven’t disappointed.

Series two saw former Take That singer and all-round nice guy, Mark Owen, win it but the real interest was provided by the marital angst of not-so-funny-man, Les Dennis. Poor ol’ Les was Celebrity Big Brother Two’s imploding unraveling celebrity. It seemed like he was the only one in the country who didn’t know Amanda was about to walk. Cringe!

Last year we were spoiled for spectacle. Or the horror on Brigitte’s face, when ex-mother in-law Jackie Stallone was introduced into the Celebrity Big Brother pit. Fantastic. Baz from the Happy Mondays walked off with the prize, upsetting the bookies favorite child rapper, Blazin’ Squads’, Kenzie.

So on to this year and Celebrity Big Brother Four and if Celebrity Big Brother were looking for a washed up fragile celebrity who could spectacularly unravel, right down to his DNA, before a hungry public, they can only have had one man at the top of their list. Step forward Mr Michael Barrymore.
